Psalm 118:19-23

This reminds me of the of Psalm 100:4 which states:

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.”

There is an appropriate way to enter God’s presence—through thanksgiving and praise. Why? Because we owe everything we are and everything we will ever be to the King of glory. He has given us this incredible thing called life. We are here by His design and serve at the pleasure of the King.

Yet we have to reconnect with God. Our connection was broken in the Garden of Eden and God made a way back to himself through His Son, Jesus—something verses 22-23 allude to:

“The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.”
‭‭
This is a prophetic statement about the coming Messiah—Jesus—who would be rejected but was, in fact, the Cornerstone.

The arrogance of man is astounding. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day thought they were so knowledgeable, yet when Jesus stood before them, the Scriptures say they didn’t recognize Him. In fact, Jesus tells the Pharisees this  in the Parables of the Wicked Farmers, concluding with:

“Then Jesus asked them, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? ‘The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.’ I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit. Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on.” When the leading priests and Pharisees heard this parable, they realized he was telling the story against them—they were the wicked farmers. They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet.”

I am so thankful that God opened my eyes to Himself. It’s interesting that the Scriptures say that God has given everyone a measure of faith. I believe it is that measure that allows us to believe in Him. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t believe in something. It is in our very DNA to know Him. To deny Him is to deny ourselves, for He made us.

If you are breathing this morning, you have much to be thankful for. Why not direct that thanks to the One made your life possible?
