Psalm 118:10-18

What are we doing with the authority the Lord has given to us? Notice the psalmist repeatedly states that he destroyed his enemies with the authority of the Lord. Did you know that Jesus told us He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19)? Jesus gave all believers authority over the enemy—over sickness and disease, and over creation itself. Are we exercising that authority, or are we simply letting the enemy walk all over us? This delegated authority is exercised through faith in Jesus’ name and through the power of the Holy Spirit, enabling us to fulfill the Great Commission. “Go and make disciples,” He said. Cleanse the leper, heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast our demons. These are all actions we witnessed in Jesus’ life and He clearly told us that we would “do the same works He had done, and greater works, because I go to the Father” (John 14:12).

So what are we waiting for? Often we say we are waiting on God to do something, but just as Jesus challenged the disciples to feed the crowd of followers after they tried to send them away (Matthew 14:16), so, He challenges us to take action.

“The Lord is my strength and my song, he has given me the victory.” That is something to praise God about! He is victorious, and through Him, so are we.

“Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly.” Even in the midst of difficulties, we offer the sacrifice of praise, knowing that our victory is secured because of the One who secures it.

I love the psalmist’s declaration: “I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.”

Let us go and do the same!
