Psalm 100:1-5

We are somewhat wild at heart and have a desire to roam free and yet there comes a time, sooner or later, that we begin to realize that we are not alone. Just as a wild horse must be broken so we must be broken and experience brokenness through understanding that we are, in fact, in Someone else’s pasture. We must acknowledge that the Lord is God.
Consider Psalm 24:1:
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.”

We are indeed sheep in His pasture.
Jesus was fond of using this symbolism to describe Himself as the Good Shepherd and describe us who follow Him as His sheep; that the Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep, and that His sheep know His voice and follow Him.
The Shepherd is the sheep’s life line. He protects, provides, rescues, and sheers the sheep, all valuable to the sheep’s well being. God does the same for us provided we listen to His voice and follow Him. A sheep that strays too far away from the flock becomes an easy target for a predator which is why a good shepherd will leave the 99 to find the 1. All are that valuable to the Shepherd.
We are called to acknowledge and give thanks to Jesus who is the Shepherd of our souls. He will bring us safely home if we but listen to His voice. As King David so famously penned Psalm 23:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

God wants nothing but the best for our lives but like that wild horse we must allow ourselves to be broken and acknowledge who is really running the show. We must willingly allow the Lord to put His harness on us (to carry our cross) which is for our good. The Lord is good and has proven Himself faithful throughout the generations to those who call upon His name. He can be trusted to lead us into green pastures.
