Psalm 19:81-88

“How long must I wait?” That is the cry of the psalmist, reminding us that there will be things we must endure by faith until the answer comes. There answer is always assured, but sometimes we must wait for it. Jerry Savelle, a well known preacher who came to my father-in-law’s church years ago,  once said, “Most of the Christian life is spent between the Amen and the There it is.”

We are called to endure some things while we are here on earth. James, the half-brother of Jesus, wrote:

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

Waiting is never easy, but faith and hope make it bearable. Without them, it is easy to slip into depression and feel as though the whole world is against you. And I will let you in on a secret—it is! We must not forget who the ruler of this world is. Jesus Himself said it; yet, He came to destroy the works of the evil one, and we are called to do the same. We are in a battle for our own soul and for the souls of others.

Much like the demon-possessed man from the “other side”whom Jesus delivered from a legion of demons, we often want to leave and be with the Lord. In Luke 8:38-39, we read:

“The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying, “No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.” So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.”

If getting saved was all we needed to do, Jesus would take us home immediately. However, He has given us each a mission: to carry His message to the lost. How are we doing with that? Remember, we are to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and—equally important—we are to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Our original mandate from God was to be fruitful and multiply. I don’t think He is just refers to having kids. We are to make a difference for the Lord in this life and bring as many spiritual kids with us as we can. Proverbs 11:30 states:

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.”

We will take some hits in this life, but we must not allow ourselves to be sidelined. Keep doing what you know to do. As the Apostle Paul encouraged us:

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Don’t give up!
