Psalm 114:1-8

Nothing can stop the plan of God. His purposes always prevail! He offers us all a part to play in His grand story if we chose to follow His plan.
The land of Judah became His sanctuary, and Israel became His kingdom. God cleared a path for the Israelites through the sea and across the mountains. No obstacle was too deep or too great to keep them from the destination He had mapped out for them. True, they got in their own way at times—costing a whole generation to die out in the desert—but God’s promise to Abraham was still realized through the next generation.
God rules over the nations, for they are all His, and He gives them to whomever He pleases. Nations that refuse to acknowledge God are in danger of being displaced by those who do. How many enemies of Israel no longer exist? Most of the “-ites” we read about in the Old Testament are gone. We must be careful not to curse those whom God has blessed, lest we find ourselves face-to-face with their Defender. That is a mistake no one makes twice. When the Psalmist says to tremble in the presence of the Lord, it is with good reason.
Isaiah recounts his encounter with God this way:
“It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!” Their voices shook the Temple to its foundations, and the entire building was filled with smoke. Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.””

When we are in the presence of God, all pretense falls away. Our every thought and deed are laid bare before us, and we realize it is to Him that we must give an account. Like Isaiah, we are overcome, for we see sin for the terrible thing it is.
Consider John’s reaction:
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

And Ezekiel reaction:
“From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor. All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me.”

Our God is not one to be trifled with. We do not want Him as an adversary, and we certainly do not want to stand in His way. It is best to just fall in line with His will. Life is far more difficult otherwise.
