Psalm 116:10-19

Death is overcome when we realize and accept the incredible gift of eternal life the Lord Jesus has purchased for us.

The Apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:20-24:

“For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.”

As the Psalmist states: “The Lord cares deeply when His loved ones die.”

Today is September 11th—a day when we remember not only those who died at the World Trade Center, but now also mourn the death of Charlie Kirk, taken yesterday by an assassin’s bullet.

Whether by plane or by bullet, we never know when our time on earth will end. For this reason, we must always be prepared to meet our Maker. We must keep our promises to the Lord and fulfill our vows in the presence of His people. May we live in such a way that brings honor and glory to Him—in both life and death—knowing that He cares deeply for each and everyone of us, and that to be absent in body is to be present with the Lord.

That knowledge brings great comfort and peace in the midst of sorrow.

As we remember those who have gone before us, may we continue to live in such a way that honors their memory and, above all, honors the Lord. Truly, there is no greater purpose in life.
