Psalm 105:16-22

It is interesting that the psalmist uses the word ‘sent’ when referring to Joseph. Armed with a few dreams, the Lord ‘sent’ Joseph to Egypt, by way of his brothers selling him to a passing caravan hoping to never see him again. I am pretty sure Joseph didn’t feel like he was being ‘sent’ and his brothers for sure were not cognizant of God’s plan in the matter. Yet Joseph’s trip to Egypt would be the impetus for their provision down the road.

The purpose of the dreams was to sustain Joseph until the time came for their fulfillment. Notice it says, “Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.”

Does God test our character? Absolutely! He sees what we are made of through carefully crafted circumstances designed to ‘test our metal’, so to speak, to see if we have what it takes to carry heavier responsibilities down the road.

Thankfully Joseph passed every test and was promoted to the 2nd in command in Egypt insuring the provision and protection of his people when the time came as well as reconciliation with his whole family. Such an amazing story that can be found in Genesis 37-50.

God’s plan is often interwoven in the most unusual circumstances and yet as we keep our eyes on Him, He works it all out. In the words of Paul in Galatians 6-9:

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

Take comfort in knowing there is a plan and that “God, who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
