Psalm 119:33-40

So many people are searching for happiness in this world. Do you want to know where happiness is truly found? It is found walking in the ways of the Lord. There is a joy that comes from walking with God that cannot be found anywhere else. As the psalmist declares in Psalm 84:10-12:
“A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.”

I can’t tell you how many times I have declared my gratitude to the Lord, echoing David’s words in Psalm 16:6, “The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places.”
Consider the passage this verse comes from:
“The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”

David set the Lord continually before Him. Do we set the Lord continually before us? Do we give Him first consideration in all things?
In His presence there is fullness of joy. Fullness also carries the meaning completeness—which makes perfect sense, for we are not complete without God.
Our lives have purpose and meaning, and true joy is only found in the pursuit of God. There is no better pursuit. God unlocks the secrets of His kingdom so that we can manifest them here. As Jesus told his disciples in Mark 4:11:
“And He said to them, To you has been entrusted the mystery of the kingdom of God [that is, the secret counsels of God which are hidden from the ungodly]; but for those outside [of our circle] everything becomes a parable, In order that they may [indeed] look and look but not see and perceive, and may hear and hear but not grasp and comprehend, lest haply they should turn again, and it [their willful rejection of the truth] should be forgiven them.”

If we want to know the truth, we must search for it with all our being—and once we find it, we must walk in it. Do you want to experience the joy and pleasure of the King? Learn, understand, and walk in His ways.
