Psalm 107:17-22

God sent out His word and healed them the Scripture says. When we understand the authority, integrity, and faithfulness of God, we realize the importance of His word. Consider the fact that God spoke creation into existence. His spoken word is powerful. He has but to speak and things happen.
The centurion understood this about Jesus and is famously quoted in Matthew 8:8 stating:
“But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.”
Matthew 8:8 NLT

Just say the word…Jesus marveled and said:
“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!”
Matthew 8:10 NLT

The spoken word is powerful when spoken from lips of integrity because they can be trusted. Scripture states that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
Words spoken in faith carry great weight and make the impossible possible for there is nothing God cannot do. James had this to say about the power of prayer:
“Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.”
James 5:15-18 NLT

Notice James referred to the prayer that is offered ‘in faith’ and the earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah simply prayed for the rain to stop and it did for three and a half years. Then he prayed again and it started to rain.
Joshua asked the Lord to stop the sun so he could finish off his enemies in the light of day and it is recorded in Joshua 10:13-14:
“So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day. There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!”
Joshua 10:13-14 NLT

In Jesus words: “Anything is possible if a person believes.” (Mark 9:23).
Faith put to action through the spoken word is powerful and makes the impossible, possible, because we serve a miracle working God.
