Psalm 102:18-28

I am so glad the writers of the Bible sought to record history for those of us who follow so we could hear of God’s dealings among mankind. There are those who make history and those who witness and record it. You need both to preserve accurate renderings of historical events.
I was watching a video about biblical genealogy that was quite interesting as the moderator was explaining how many of the patriarchs were contemporaries of each other because they lived so long. The point being made was that many of these people’s lives intersected and can you imagine what was passed down from say Methuselah who lived over 900 years? Talk about a wealth of information!
In terms of recorded years, the Bible covers an expanse of approximately 4000 years from the time of creation and Adam to the time of Jesus in the 1st century. Historical books continue to be written as people feel compelled to write for the benefit of future generations.
To those who seek to rewrite history to their advantage, the Bible serves as a thorn in their side. In people’s attempts to remove God from the public forum, history has shown that the Bible always prevails and has outlasted them all for it is the truth. The Bible continues to be the best-selling book of all time.
Yet, A. W. Tower is quoted as saying, “Satan’s greatest weapon is man’s ignorance of God’s Word.” We have this wealth of knowledge and wisdom that remains undiscovered by most as modern day distractions pull us in other directions. We must fight for our relationship with God. The undercurrent of the world pulls us away from the things of God and we must be deliberate about swimming upstream against the current.
As the author of Hebrews wrote:
“So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.”

If we choose to remain ignorant of the Bible and the things of God, we drift away from the truth and quickly become arbiters of our own truth which is the very definition of deception. May we not ignore the Bible. There is such an advantage in knowing what is contained in its pages. We give our time to so many things. Why not give some of that time to our Creator getting to know Him? Remember, It is not just what you know, but rather Who you know, and it is the truth you know and walk in, that sets you free.
