Psalm 119:25-32

The Word of God is life itself, and gives life, reviving the soul. There is nothing like receiving a timely word. Solomon stated it this way:

“Like apples of gold in settings of silver Is a word spoken in right circumstances. Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold Is a wise reprover to a listening ear.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

I can’t tell you how many times God has spoken to me through His Word when things have weighed heavily on my heart. Like Isaiah said:

“Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭30‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God never ceases to amaze me, and those moments when He speaks are most precious, because they remind me of His active care over my life—He even answers my thoughts before I can speak them.

There is an interesting gem found in the middle of this passage: “Keep me from lying to myself.” How do we lie to ourselves? By believing anything that is contrary to the truth found in the Word of God. A lie is what got us in this mess to begin with in the Garden of Eden. Eve believed a lie and acted on it. How many times do we do the same—believe a lie and act upon it?

We have the most recent tragic example of this in the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Many lies were spoken about him—he was called a racist, a misogynist, a fascist, a hater, and more. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Yet someone believed those lies, felt threatened by them, acted on them, and killed him. Lies are dangerous and destructive. It is the truth that sets us free as found in the Word of God.

Notice the psalmist says, “I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations. I cling to your laws.”

Chosen, determined, cling—these are all definitive words that reflect a firm decision. These positions were non-negotiable to the psalmist, and they should be non-negotiable for us as well. When we desire truth, we must say no to the lies that try to find a nest in our minds. As the saying goes, “When you believe a lie, you empower the liar.”

The only way to dislodge a lie is with the truth. That is the importance of the Bible. It shines light into our darkness and shows us the way. What a treasure we hold in our hands just waiting to be discovered.

The question is this: Will we believe the lies of the enemy, or will we take the time to discover and stand firmly on the truth of God’s Word?
