Psalm 113:5-9

The Lord is enthroned on high, and yet He stoops down to look upon heaven and earth. What a powerful image—like a father stooping down to pick up a child. God stoops down to pick us up and care for our well-being .
God helps the poor and the needy, setting them among the princes of the land. How many stories do we know of very successful people who started off from very humble beginnings? Think of Joseph, who went from a dungeon cell to the number two guy in all of Egypt. King David was the baby of the family, not even considered by his father, Jesse, as worthy to be called one of his sons when the prophet Samuel came to anoint the next king of Israel. God found him, though, didn’t He? How about Gideon, whom God called when he was threshing wheat in the bottom of a wine press to hide it from the Midianites, who had been raiding their land? By his own admission, his clan was the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh, and he was the least in his entire family. He was pretty much at the bottom of the heap, yet God stooped down and used him mightily to deliver the Israelites from the Midianites.
God often uses those of least repute to humble those of great reputation. All of Israel wanted Gideon to be their leader after this, and he is considered one of their judges. But look at Gideon’s response found in Judges 8:22-23:
“Then the Israelites said to Gideon, “Be our ruler! You and your son and your grandson will be our rulers, for you have rescued us from Midian.” But Gideon replied, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son. The Lord will rule over you!”

Gideon never forgot where he came from. Maybe that is why God used him in the first place. Humility is a treasured quality in God’s kingdom.
Consider 1 Corinthians 1:27:
“Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.”

God cares for the least of us! What about the woman caught in adultery, whom Jesus gave a new lease on life, or Mary Magdalene, from whom He cast out seven spirits and who was the first person He appeared to upon His resurrection? God values the underdog.
As Isaiah 42:3 states:
“He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged.”
Isaiah 42:3 NLT

Consider Jesus’ words when He concluded His parable on the Final Judgment:
““And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”
Matthew 25:40 NLT

God even sets the orphans in families:
“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”
