Psalm 107:10-16
It is never a good idea to reject the counsel of the Lord. Why do we have such a hard time following instructions? Is it pride? Ego? A lack of humility? ?
I happen to like putting things together, be it a puzzle, or a Lego set. When my son, Joey, was about 8, I endeavored to put together a huge submarine set. It came with an instruction booklet that was several pages because there were thousands of pieces to this set. Sure, I could have tried to do it on my own but I am pretty sure we would not have built anything that resembled the picture on the box.
The same is true for a puzzle. Not that it comes with instructions, but at least you have a picture of what the puzzle is supposed to look like. Try putting one together without the picture. It will be certainly be a time consuming ordeal.
We have a life manual that not only shows us a picture of what/who we are to be like (Jesus), but it also gives us instructions of how to best operate in this life. Oh, we can try to live life without the manual, but we will find we waste a lot of time in trial and error. Those trials and error are designed to get us to “look up from where our help comes from.” That takes some humility on our part to admit (1) that we don’t know everything and (2) that we need help. That is hard for some people’s ego.
On top of all this, God sent us His Holy Spirit who is tasked with guiding us into all truth as He convicts the world of it’s sin, of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
In a way, it is like the movie, 2012. Preparations were being made to rescue a remnant of civilization before an impending disaster, but unlike the movie, there is room for everyone. We just need to take our seat.
As Jesus stated:
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”
Matthew 16:24-26 NLT

Gods instructions are a life saver, IF, we do what He says. It is not just knowing God’s word, it is applying God’s word to our lives that is a game changer.
As the saying goes, “The Word works when you work the Word.”
