Psalm 104.5-9

As a kid growing up, I loved to watch National Geographic and the Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau. The ocean is its own ecosystem that is largely unexplored. It seems we are continually discovering more and more things unknown to us before. We are naive to think that all this structure and order came from a cosmic bang. There was and is a definite guiding Hand in all of creation and we would do well to take note.

I love how the Psalmist clearly states that God set a firm boundary for the seas so they would never again cover the earth. What is he talking about? The flood. We read about the flood of mankind and as hard as it is to imagine, evidence exists proving that it happened. The earth and everything on it serves God’s purposes. No amount of climate change is going to change those water levels and boundaries until God says so. God is the one who placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved. God is the One who holds all of this together.

Having the proper or correct worldview is paramount because faulty assumptions and faulty reasonings lead to faulty conclusions. We don’t what to build and live our lives on the premise of a lie. Either we believe in God or we don’t and our decision will reflect in how we live.

The Bible says in several places that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of the Lord is our starting place in understanding the world around us. Any worldview void of a belief in God is woefully insufficient to explain the wonders of life, and eventually leads to self-serving ideologies.

The Apostle Paul in Romans states it this way….

“But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.”

This explains the divide that exists between those who live for God and those who don’t. As Paul explains to the Corinthians:

“Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.””

Worldview is everything! Some of us need to consider and include God in our worldview for life does not make sense until we do.

Happy Sunday all! It is a great day to include God in your worldview by heading to church. Learn how He set things up. Too many of us are living this thing called life without studying the Manuel for living and wondering why life just doesn’t seem to be working out. In the words of Myles Munroe, “If you don’t understand the purpose of a thing, abuse is inevitable.”

Very true!
