Psalm 112:4-10

God takes care of His own. In this Psalm, we see the many blessings afforded to the godly.

Have you ever been in a dark place? As a family, we went on a trip to Colorado and went to the Molly Kathleen Gold Mine. As we descended down a vertical shaft 1000 feet, let me tell you, it was dark. The comfort our guide’s flash light gave us was immense - truly a light shining in the darkness.

God’s word is like that to us when we are in a dark place. His word is like a lamp for our feet according to Psalm 119:105. His word speaks to us in key moments showing us the way.

Those who are generous, compassionate, righteous, and who conduct their business fairly will not be overcome by evil - that’s a promise!

The righteous do not fear bad news. They are ever trusting of  God’s watchfulness over their lives knowing that God always comes through for them. That is why they are confident and fearless in the face of their enemies.

The righteous share freely and give generously. They will long be remembered for their good deeds and be people of influence and honor.

Who doesn’t like the righteous? The wicked. The wicked, in fact, mock the righteous and are always out to get them; however, as this Psalmists writes, as these blessings overtake the righteous, the wicked are infuriated. God masterfully prepares a feast for us in the presence of our enemies according to Psalm 23:5. It is like the cartoon of the Wile E. Coyote and the Road runner, only for real! The traps that the enemy sets for the righteous spring back on themselves. The righteous need not worry about their enemies for God has their backs. It is a beautiful thing. When the wicked mess with God’s kids, the ultimate Parent and Father steps in. Best not to poke that bear!
