Psalm 128:1-6

Life works when we fear God and walk in His ways. Blessings follow obedience—it’s called the favor of the Lord. Moses understood this, which is why we find him in Exodus 33:13 asking God:
“If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.””

What is favor? Favor, by definition, means, “approval, acceptance, and the benefits that result from it, such as divine blessing, protection, and prosperity.” Who doesn’t want some of that? Noah found favor with God, and it resulted in God saving him and his family—along with representatives of the animal kingdom—from the flood.
Favor is experienced when our ways please the Lord. However, it is not earned by good deeds, but rather it is a gift freely given through faith. Much like grace, which is considered unmerited favor, God’s approval and delight in our lives often releases His favor upon us.
There is an interesting account recorded in 2 Kings 4 in the life of Elisha and a Shunammite woman.
“One day Elisha went to the town of Shunem. A wealthy woman lived there, and she urged him to come to her home for a meal. After that, whenever he passed that way, he would stop there for something to eat. She said to her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.” One day Elisha returned to Shunem, and he went up to this upper room to rest. He said to his servant Gehazi, “Tell the woman from Shunem I want to speak to her.” When she appeared, Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tell her, ‘We appreciate the kind concern you have shown us. What can we do for you? Can we put in a good word for you to the king or to the commander of the army?’” “No,” she replied, “my family takes good care of me.” Later Elisha asked Gehazi, “What can we do for her?” Gehazi replied, “She doesn’t have a son, and her husband is an old man.” “Call her back again,” Elisha told him. When the woman returned, Elisha said to her as she stood in the doorway, “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my Lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” But sure enough, the woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year she had a son, just as Elisha had said.”

There is more to this story, but because of her kindness to Elisha, she received favor from both Elisha and the Lord—for only the Lord can open a barren womb.
In its simplest form, good things beget good things, and bad things beget bad things. When we strive to walk righteously before the Lord, it opens the door for His favor to be released in our lives. And when the Lord blesses you, you are blessed. Proverbs states it this way:
“The blessing of the Lord–it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].”

Nothing can compare with the favor and blessing of the Lord. He will never be outdone, for no one can outgive the King. That is one of His many great qualities.
Strive to please the King. It is, by far, the best decision you will ever make.
