Psal 127:3-5

When you consider God’s original mandate for us, it included being fruitful and multiplying. Children are a gift from the Lord. I have experienced many things, but none more precious than the birth of my children and grandchildren. There is absolutely something  indescribable that takes place in a delivery room when a baby is born—the wonder and joy of it all! I can’t help but think the angels and God in heaven are also rejoicing at the arrival of these new little ones, endowed with such potential to change the world for good. They certainly rejoiced at Jesus birth!

Myles Munroe once said that every child that is born is an answer to a prayer and a solution to a societal problem. When a change is needed, a child is born. Each child carries that much purpose and potential—so much so that Satan tries to destroy them before they are even born.

What would drive King Herod to slaughter thousands, if not millions, of innocent baby boys around the time of Jesus’ birth? And what would cause Pharaoh to issue a decree that all baby boys born to the Israelites were to be killed and thrown into the Nile River? Fear—fear of their potential.

Interesting, the Scriptures say of Jesus, “Unto us a child was born and a Son was given.” Jesus was the answer to mankind’s sin problem. The gift of salvation was brought through this Son that was given.

We have all been born, but what was given through our birth? Some are doctors, some are painters, some are entertainers, some are scientists, some are teachers, some are athletes, some are pioneers—the list goes on and on.

What gift is locked inside of us? Not only were we born, but we were gifted to this world. Myles Munroe also stated that the cemetery is the wealthiest place on earth because it contains masterpieces that were never painted, songs that were never sung, and books that were never written.

What is our contribution to society? It may come as a shock to us, but we were not born for ourselves. We were born for a specific purpose, designed by God, to be a blessing to this world we live in. Our purpose can only be discovered in God. He is the one who knows why we are here, and life is about discovering what that purpose is. Trust me when I say that we are the happiest when we are fulfilling God’s mandate for our lives. It is a joy unmatched, for we are also experiencing the joy of our Father in heaven.

Consider these words spoken by God the Father spoke over His Son, Jesus, after He was baptized:

“After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.””

A Son was given—and was fulfilling the purpose for which He was sent.

Are we fulfilling the purpose for which we were sent?
