Psalm 130:1-8

There is forgiveness with God. That should be music to our ears. Who doesn’t mess up in life? The beauty of the salvation story is that our sin has already been paid for. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” our debt was paid in full. All we have to do is accept this truth.
Yet somehow, there is this thought that makes us believe we have to work for His forgiveness. We think we must clean up our act before coming before Him or stepping foot in a church. We could never be good enough—that’s the problem! The sin nature we inherited from Adam sticks to us like glue, and as hard as we try, we still fall short. In, fact, according to the Scriptures, we all fall short of the glory of God.
The Apostle Paul bemoans this fact in Romans:
“I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.”

Our answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord! Look at what the psalmist says, speaking of God in the last verse of this psalm—He Himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin.
We were forever relegated to the dungeons of the dammed because of that sin, and yet God Himself has redeemed us.
As Paul explains:
“When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:20-23 NLT

As Paul continues in Romans 8:
“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”
Romans 8:1-2 NLT

It isn’t our works that free us—it is His work that not only purchased our freedom but delivered us from death by redeeming us from the power of sin and death. Sin no longer has power over those who belong to Christ. We now have a choice of how we will live—something we didn’t have before.
So don’t let the devil deceive you into thinking you aren’t worthy to come before God. You never were. But in Christ, we can now boldly come to the throne of grace to find help when we need it—and we will not be rejected.
In the words of the author of Hebrews:
“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrews 4:14-16 NLT

Notice it says to come boldly. Don’t be afraid—the Father will welcome you home just as Jesus described in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).
That is good news!
