Psalm 149:1

The assembly of the faithful… sounds like church! Are we not called to meet together?
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” —Hebrews 10:24–25 (NLT)
It is hard to encourage people if we are not there. Or were we thinking that going to church was about what we get out of it? No! It is about what we bring to the table to share with others.
It is interesting that Scripture does not say “the assembly of believers,” but rather “the assembly of the faithful.” Faithfulness is meant to be the hallmark of every believer. Many say they believe—but how many are truly faithful?
What does faithfulness look like? The Bible! Are we not to be walking epistles? Faithfulness means remaining true to biblical principles.
Faith and faithfulness are things we must cultivate in our lives. In fact, faithfulness is a natural result of faith. Faithfulness implies corresponding action to the faith we profess.
Consider the words of James:
“So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?”
—James 2:17-20 NLT
P.S. There are no perfect churches. Stop looking for one—you will be disappointed every time. Churches are filled with imperfect people worshiping a perfect God. We must learn how to walk lovingly with one another. Some people certainly make that difficult, but even they serve as “grace growers” in our lives.
One thing I know for certain is that love never fails. How can people trust that there is a God who loves them when His own people do not? Shame on us.
We are called to follow Jesus’ example.
Consider Paul’s words to the Romans:
“But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” —Romans 5:8 (NLT)
As I have heard it said, “We may be the only ‘Jesus’ some people ever see.” What a tragedy it would be to misrepresent Him.
