Matthew 6:19-21

I read something neat the other day, and it said this: “When God blesses you, don’t raise your standard of living—raise your standard of giving.”
I love that! It shows an understanding of the true purpose of blessing. God is a giving God, and we are called to be a giving people. It has been said that the only things we take with us to heaven are the things we have given away to bless others—it all goes into our heavenly bank account. Scripture tells us that God loves a cheerful giver. Why? Because a cheerful giver gets it. In fact, Jesus said in Luke 6:38:
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.””
The Kingdom of God runs on generosity. This truth contains a key to living life well. Not only that, it is a joy to give when you understand who your Father is. You can never outgive God, and the rewards He gives are ones the world cannot even come close to offering.
My husband always says, “Show me your checkbook, and I’ll show you what you worship.” How we spend our money is a clear indicator of what we value and where our treasure truly lies. We can choose to invest in the earthly kingdom or the heavenly kingdom—and God’s kingdom always has better returns.
