Psalm 141:5-7

Correction, though unpleasant, is a lifesaver. How many times have we caught ourselves saying, “Oh, if I had only listened, I wouldn’t be in this mess”? And it is not just knowing what to do, but actually doing it, that prevents disaster.

David knows the ultimate end of the wicked, and he states that when others witness their downfall, his words will be proven true.

I find that when I read David’s words regarding the wicked, I am somewhat taken aback when he says things like, “when their leaders are thrown down from a cliff.” The Christian message these days seems to have been sanitized or watered down, and I fear that the truth of Gospel is being softened so as to not offend. The truth is offensive to those who are not walking in it, but to imply that all is well when it is not is, as Solomon says:

“If the godly give in to the wicked, it’s like polluting a fountain or muddying a spring.”

And consider God’s words to Ezekiel:

“If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths. If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me. “If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. But if you warn righteous people not to sin and they listen to you and do not sin, they will live, and you will have saved yourself, too.””

I don’t know about you but I certainly don’t want to be responsible for someone else’s demise because I failed to speak up. As I have said before, there is still a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. That hasn’t changed with Jesus’ arrival. What has changed is that we now have a lifeline through Jesus by repenting and accepting the sacrifice He made for our sin. We are given new life in Christ that brings about real change, and we now have the power to say no to sin—a power that we must exercise lest we fall into that second category of people God warned Ezekiel about.

Heaven does not have open borders—hell, however, does. Let that sink in. We must never forget Jesus words:

““You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

That tells me not to follow groupthink or the crowd. We need to know what we believe and why—refuse to compromise. Easier said than done, but absolutely necessary all the same.
