Romans 5:1-5

This bears repeating—“Therefore”...in light of all these things...“since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ has done for us.”
This is an immutable fact. Thank God for His mercy and goodness extended toward us—we could never repay Him.
And...because of our faith, Christ has brought us to this place of undeserved privilege where WE NOW stand. Just think on that for a moment. We now stand in a place of undeserved privilege because of our faith in Christ. We could never take credit for what He has so graciously given us.
I am reminded of the words of Jesus in John 5:24:
““I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.”
Because we believe in Jesus, we have already passed from death to life. We are already partaking of the eternal life He has given us and will not be condemned. Our sins have been removed because of His sacrifice in our stead. Such wonderful truths that we would do well to meditate on.
Yet, we still have to live out our earthly lives here, which can be a challenge at times. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like undeserved privilege at all. However, Paul encourages us that, in light of our secured future, we can rejoice even when we run into trials and troubles. They are temporary, but God uses them to develop endurance and strength of character in our lives, leading to an increasingly confident hope of salvation.
And this hope will not disappoint us. Why? Because God has already given us the Holy Spirit, filling our hearts with His love and assuring us that what He has promised is yet to come.
So we must use our time here wisely. God has great things in store for us, as Paul later reminds us in Romans 8:18:
“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.
” Sometimes we have to go through stuff. Jesus made it clear that we would experience trials in this world, but He also told us to take heart because He has overcome the world.
That changes our perspective. Our trials do not determine our standing with God, nor do they change our destination. We have peace with God because of Jesus Christ. We stand in His grace because of faith. We have the Holy Spirit within us, and we have the promise of glory ahead of us.
We know where we stand, and we know where we are going.
That gives us all the more reason to rejoice.
