Luke 7:11-17

This is such an incredible miracle. This was the first time Jesus raised someone from the dead. Can you imagine the mother? Talk about going from the depths of despair to unbridled joy. Jesus had great compassion on this woman, for she was a widow and her son was all she had. Women in that day were highly dependent on the men in their lives, so this was not only an act of compassion and mercy toward the widow, but also an act of provision for her in her later years.
Jesus did not raise everyone from the dead, but there was certainly a purpose in each life He restored.
Can you imagine what it must have been like to be there and witness this miracle? Truly, all things are possible. And just a thought—where did Jesus bring this boy back from? He was obviously no longer present in this life, but in another place.
We become so caught up in this life that we give little thought to the next. In reality, the supreme goal of this life is to ensure that our eternity is secure. There are only two destinations—heaven or hell. There is only one way to heaven, and that is through Jesus. We must accept Him as Lord and Savior.
Once that decision is made, life becomes about active service to the King and bringing as many people with us as possible—spreading the Good News of the Kingdom. Fear should become a thing of the past because our destiny is secure, whether we enter eternity today or years from now.
In the meantime, we have the privilege of “storing up treasure in heaven” by serving God’s purposes and loving His people.
If you have ever wondered why you are here, it is to know Him and to make Him known, just as Jesus did so beautifully.
