Acts 1:1-5

Luke, the beloved physician, wrote his detailed account based on extensive interviews and careful research after the resurrection of Christ. It is here that we see Jesus presenting “Himself alive” with many “convincing proofs” over a period of forty days following His suffering and resurrection, speaking to them about the Kingdom of God—which they now had access to.

Jesus had ushered in the new covenant, established on better promises.

Notice that they were instructed not to leave Jerusalem until they received what the Father had promised—the Holy Spirit. This was not a suggestion, but a command, which reveals the vital role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives. He is not optional, but an absolute necessity.

Consider Jesus’ words:

“But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Advocate, or Helper, is the Holy Spirit. He is our Teacher and our Guide. Jesus Himself relied on the Holy Spirit—so what makes us think we can go through life without Him?

We need to get to know the Advocate. The Book of Acts introduces us to what the Holy Spirit can do in the lives of believers and gives us a glimpse of what Jesus meant when He said that we would do even greater works than He did.

We don’t live this life in our own strength, but rather in the strength the Holy Spirit provides.

Don’t leave home without Him.
