Matthew 8:1-6

The Kingdom of God operates very differently from the world we live in. Depending on when we come to the Lord, many of us need to be reprogrammed because we have been so deeply influenced by the world’s ways. Our minds must be renewed—in other words, restored to their original design.

To become the greatest, we must become the least. This idea seems laughable to those whose motto is, “I’m looking out for number one.” Worldly leadership is centered around the leader, whereas godly leadership is centered around those being led. The true nature of leadership is service.

Jesus did not come for Himself—He came for us. He came in the form of a servant and gave His life for us. He was not born in a palace; He was born in a humble stable. He left the wonder and magnificence of Heaven to lay down His life for humanity. As He said, “No greater love has anyone than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” And, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

This is what true leadership looks like. We must become like little children in humility, faith, and repentance if we hope to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

We must also think carefully before causing one of these little ones, who trust in Him, to stumble into sin. What kind of example are we setting for those around us? Sin often carries unintended collateral damage, and Jesus warns us not to lead others into sin. We are responsible for the example we set before others.

Food for thought…
