Matthew 11:28-30

This is such a wonderfully compassionate invitation from the Lord. Who among us cannot say that we have grown weary from carrying heavy burdens from time to time?
There have been seasons in my walk with the Lord when I questioned this verse, because what I was going through did not feel easy or light. During those times, I was gently reminded to examine what He had actually asked me to do versus what I had chosen to take on myself. Much like Martha, I was often busy and troubled by many things when, in reality, only one thing was necessary. Resting in the Lord has always been a challenge for me, and yet here I am once again being lovingly confronted by His Word.
What is Jesus’ instruction? “Come to Me.” These are words that often get drowned out in the chaos of the day. “Oh, I have so much to do,” we lament. Yet He simply says, “Come to Me.”
Peace, power, and perspective are found in the presence of the Lord.
One of the main reasons I write these posts each morning is to remind myself to put Him first in my day—to come to Him before I do anything else. I need what He provides to help me get through the day. Somehow, He even manages to stretch my time so that I am more productive and still have time left over. I still haven’t quite figured that one out, but suffice it to say—He is God, and He can do anything.
To me, this is one of the sweetest invitations in the Bible. Yet how few of us truly take Him up on His offer.
