Acts 27:7-12

The best thing these guys had in their favor was that Paul was with them—they just didn’t realize it yet. God wasn’t going to allow anything to happen to Paul, for there were still places for him to go and people for him to see—namely, Caesar.

I think what I get most out of this passage is that even though they didn’t listen to Paul, and things were completely out of Paul’s hands, God was still watching over him—and them by default. However, they certainly would have done better had they listened to him in the first place!

There are times when we find ourselves at the mercy of other people’s decisions. It is not the most comfortable position to be in, especially when we can see that they are making the wrong decision and there is little or nothing we can do about it. Yet we will see that, in spite of the crew’s bad decision, God still protected Paul—and He will protect us. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

I am so grateful for God’s continued protection. He who began His good work in you and me will continue it until it is time for us to go home. We may not always get to choose the route, and sometimes the decisions of others may even affect the journey, but they cannot derail the purposes of God for our lives.

Our destination is secure, no matter the route.
