Psalm 145:4-7

Each generation has a responsibility to tell the next about God’s goodness, power, and plan of redemption offered to mankind. As has often been said, we are just one generation away from losing the message if we fail to share it. How many times throughout history have we seen an all-out assault on the gospel message in attempts to silence it?

Israel was given specific instructions to recount God’s works to their children and their children’s children in Deuteronomy 4:9:

“But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.”
—Deuteronomy 4:9 (NLT)

We must ensure that, as we run this multi-generational relay race called life, we do not drop the baton and fail to pass it to the next generation. For the truth of the Scriptures declares:

“For ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?’”
—Romans 10:13–15 (NLT)

How will they hear if we do not tell them? We must not forget the Great Commission to spread the Good News and make disciples of all nations. And yet, to tell the Gospel, we must know the Gospel. Many believe in God but know very little of His message. We must become more educated in the things of God so that, in the words of the Apostle Peter:

“…if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”
—1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)

We must always be ready to explain what we believe and why. If we do not know the “why,” we can easily be deceived by well-sounding messages that, unbeknownst to us, contradict Scripture.
I trust, as the Scriptures say, that a day is coming when all the earth will declare His glory, as Habakkuk wrote:

“For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord.”
—Habakkuk 2:14 (NLT)

And as the Apostle Paul declared:

“that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
—Philippians 2:10–11 (NLT)

Amen!
