Psalm 143:10-12

How important is God’s will? It is vitally important for our well-being. His plan and purpose for our lives work—ours are more like trial and error, with an emphasis on error. Considering that we only pass this way once, I would think we would want to get things right from the onset. That is one of the reasons, we, as parents, are instructed in Proverbs to:
“Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”
Proverbs 22:6 NLT

We want to set up our kids for success.
This was the practice of King David with his son Solomon. When the time came for Solomon to be king, God gave him the opportunity to ask for anything—and he asked for wisdom. David wasn’t telling his son to do anything he wasn’t modeling himself, as we can see from his prayer:
“Teach me to do Your will for you are my God. May Your gracious Spirit lead me forward on firm footing. For the glory of Your name, O Lord, preserve my life.”
I like how David says, “For the glory of Your name…” It ties in with my post from the other day—that we come to God, not based on our merit, but on His. For the glory of His name, we ask, knowing that He is a good God.
I am so grateful for God’s continued attention to our lives and being a very present help in times of trouble. We can trust in Him! On this Thanksgiving, we have mush to be thankful for!
