Psalm 133:1-3

The importance of harmony—or unity as some translations state—is that the Lord pronounces His blessing in the midst of it. Some translations even say He commands His blessing where there is unity. Life works when you have the blessing of the Lord.
Unity is when everyone gets along with each other—no bickering or back-biting. As a parent, it is like when all your kids are playing nice with each other.
Harmony is when everything flows together in sync, like a beautiful melody with its various parts all playing in tune. When you listen to it, it does something to the soul.
I recently went to an Italian opera that had an orchestra, and before they began, one instrumentalist played a note for everyone to tune their instruments to. At first, it was as you would imagine as you heard all these instruments compare and adjust their pitch to his note until it became one sound. That’s the goal isn’t it?—one sound.
Did you know there was such a note in life that makes everything work? His name is Jesus! When we are all tuned to Him, we live in harmony. He is the Prince of Peace and will bring peace to our souls. The challenge is getting everyone tuned in to Him. Otherwise, there will always be those stragglers whose life notes stand out in contrast to those around them—like an instrument out of tune with the Creator of the universe.
Be mindful that there are some people who love to stir the pot just for fun—fun for them, others, not so much. It’s as if their lives are not complete without agitating something or someone.
Now, don’t get me wrong—there are times when some people need to be prodded. Things need to be stirred up from time to time because they have become stagnant. That kind of agitation has a purpose: to bring that person back into harmony with the rest. But to just poke fun at someone for sport can be viewed as mean-spirited. Have the wisdom to know when you have said too much.
One word spoken in the wrong spirit can bring discord to an otherwise harmonious atmosphere—and God does not look kindly on sowers of discord. In fact, Proverbs 6:16-19 lists the seven things that God detests, one of which is, “a person who sows discord in a family.”
It is best to work toward those things that promote harmony. As Romans states:
“Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”
