Psalm 121:1-8

What a wonderful psalm! Our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. I love that He never slumbers or sleeps, always keeps watch over us, and protects us from all harm— both now and forever. There is no one better to watch over us, and we can sleep soundly at night knowing that He is with us.
I may have shared this before, but when I was a young girl, there was a fire on our property—in our barn. I remember waking up to the noise, which was pretty terrifying for a young girl, and being afraid to go to sleep after the fireman had gotten it under control. My mom sat with me and told me that angels watched over me as I slept and that they would wake me up if there was anything wrong. That was such a gift of comfort for me, one that stayed with me throughout my childhood. Little did I know at the time that it was scriptural.
Consider Psalm 91:9-12:
“If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.”

One day, while shopping in a Christian bookstore, I found a painting entitled Watchers in the Night which showed an angel standing guard by the bed of a young boy sleeping. It brought me right back to that moment with my mom. I bought it for my kids and hung it in the hallway so they would be reminded of their guardian angels who watch over them.
God’s angels truly watch over us. Paul’s said this about angels:
“Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.”
Hebrews 1:14 NLT

Angels care for those who will inherit salvation. Kind of makes you want to be sure you’re covered by Jesus, doesn’t it? My guardian angel has saved me more times than I know, and I believe when we get to heaven, we’ll see all the near misses that would have been deadly if not for their protection.
We can trust that when we are in the will of God, His ministering angels are busy around us, deflecting the arrows of the evil one coming at us. It is God’s promise to us. Take Him at His Word!
