Psalm 119:161-168

Whom shall we fear? In spite of powerful people harassing him, the psalmist declares that he only trembles at God’s Word. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowing who to fear in this life is important. As Jesus stated in Luke 12:4-5:
““Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.”

And as Solomon wrote:
“Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.”
Proverbs 29:25 NLT

This may explain why the psalmist also states: “I obey Your commandments and laws because You know everything I do.”
There is something about living a life unto God that brings peace to the soul. It is a peace found no where else, for true peace can only be found in God. When you are in good standing with the King, you fall under His protection. There is no one greater, and no safer or more privileged position to be in.
Jesus stated:
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.””
John 16:33 NLT

Jesus has overcome this world and reigns supreme. The peace He offers is only possible only when we understand that this life is temporary and that our true home lies beyond. We must have an understanding of where we are going from here. As has been said before, this world is only for passing through.
The psalmist—no doubt—has discovered this and values the Word of God above all else for revealing this knowledge to him. It allows him to adjust his life accordingly. The Word of God is his lifeline, for in obeying it, his future is secure. No wonder he considers it a great treasure. The Word contains the keys that unlock the secrets to successful living. There is safety and peace for those who follow God’s regulations.
Why make life any harder than it has to be?
