Psalm 119:73-80

Oh that we would have the sense to follow His commands! As God states in Psalm 32:9:
“The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.””
Psalms 32:8-9 NLT

Many parents know the frustration of an unruly child, especially when they are having to deal with the same disciplinary issues. I took no joy in having punish my kids for poor behavior as I understand the “ spare the rod, spoil the child” proverb as well as the importance of Proverbs 22:6:
“Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”
Proverbs 22:6 NLT

Corrective discipline is so important to keep us all on the straight and narrow.
I also love how the psalmist is aware of his witness to others in that he knows people are watching as he states, “May all who fear You find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in Your Word.”
I understand this. There have been so many times I have rejoiced as I have heard people give a bold witness to the Lord. There is just something about seeing someone accomplished in their craft give God all the glory for their achievements. How many times have you heard athletes give God the praise for their victories? They understand where their strength comes from and they understand why they have been given such a platform—to make Him known throughout the world.
It brings me such joy to see my kids grown and doing well in life. I trust that our Father in heaven feels the same way. As the psalmist states, “May I be blameless in keeping Your decrees; then I will never be ashamed.” And may I add, “And then You will never be disgraced or given a bad name because of me.”
