Psalm 116:7-9

Sometimes our soul is not at rest because we concern ourselves with too many things. Like the example of Martha in the Bible, we busy ourselves with lesser things at the expense of the greater things. We think the world can’t survive without us. Well, it is going to have to learn how to survive without us if we don’t take care of ourselves. Rest is important—so much so that God included a day of rest in the Ten Commandments.
There is one area of life where we often become consumed: work. God asks us to give Him a tithe of not only the money we earn but also of the time we use to earn it. We work because we want to make money and yet money isn’t our source—God is. So what does God do? He asks for a tithe of our income and a tithe of our time, and He gives us a promise of abundance if we obey.
I have always admired Chick-fil-A for their stance on the Sabbath. They keep the Sabbath holy by remaining closed on Sundays, yet every other day of the week there are always lines of cars waiting to place an order. I firmly believe this is the Lord’s blessing on their business for putting God first.
How about us? Do we put God first, or do we run ourselves into the ground worrying about everything? Jesus addressed this when He said:
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.””

Sometimes life is not so much about what we can do but rather about what we should do. We over burden ourselves with many things, just as Martha did, and Jesus said to her:
“My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:41-42 NLT

May we truly discover the one thing worth being concerned about. Then, we will find rest for our souls and walk in the Lord’s presence as we live here on earth.
