Psalm 116:1-6

There is so much going on around us that we are completely unaware of. God is always a very present help in times of trouble.
When I was still playing golf on the LPGA, one of our tournament stops was in Portland, Oregon, where I stayed with a wonderful couple, Al and Andrea (Andy) Egg. Al served as a chaplain for the Portland Trail Blazers, and one year he gave me a book by Frank Peretti entitled This Present Darkness. His words to me were, “This book will change your prayer life.” Now, mind you, this book was over 400 pages long, and I wasn’t much of a reader. I laugh as I think back on it, but it wasn’t until the following year that I actually read the book. Truth be told, I knew I was going to be staying with them again for the tournament, and knew I needed to read the book before I got there. ;)
The perfect opportunity came when I had a tournament in Japan right before Portland. Since I am not much of a sleeper on planes, I thought, “Perfect! I will read this on the 17+ hour flight to Japan.” Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. In fact, I finished the book in just three days!
It is a fictional novel that tells the story of a struggling pastor in a local community. While the author sets the stage in the natural world, he also reveals what is going on in the spiritual realm—the battle raging between demons vying for control over this town in particular, and the angels that get brought onto the scene through the prayers of the believers. This cosmic battle plays out behind the scenes, and the prayers of the saints become the deciding factor in whether the devil wins or not.
This book truly did change my prayer life. As I reflected on its implications, I was reminded of Scriptures like Ephesians 6:12:
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

We must never discount the importance of our prayers nor the availability and ability of the One we pray to. He is always listening, ready to act on the wings of our prayers.
As James states in James 5:16 states: “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
God has always come through for me in every situation I have faced. He truly is a very present help in times of trouble.
As Hebrews 13:6 in the Amplified version states:
“Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] [Josh. 1:5.] So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me? [Ps. 27:1;118:6.]”

What God said bears repeating:
“[I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]”
That’s my God!
