Psalm 108:1-6

King David is praising God’s unfailing love and His faithfulness; Two qualities God is well known for. He will never leave us or forsake us and can be wholly trusted to keep His word to us.

God’s love never fails us. Put another way, He never fails to love us. That is what ‘unfailing’ means. It is His love for us that allows us to come to Him even in our worst state and find forgiveness when we ask. Never doubt His love and never allow sin to keep you from seeking not only His forgiveness, but His grace as well to live as He would have you live.

Sometimes we think we are a disappointment to others because we failed to live up to their expectations. It’s never a good feeling,  but I have found that when we come to God with our mess, He picks us up, dusts us off, and sets us on the right path, without judgment for the judgment was already placed on His Son Jesus on the cross.

But like a parent with young child that wants to toddle off to where they want to go, God redirects us because it may not be safe where we are headed and we would do best not to push the limits. “Father knows best”, to coin the title of the 50’s TV sitcom.

Is our heart confident in God? Do we trust in His unfailing love and faithfulness? There is a reason that the Scriptures say “the righteous are as bold as a lion.” They are confident in their God because they have taken the time to know Him and learn His ways. There is a certain pep in your step when you know your Father is pleased with you and a certain confidence you walk in because you know you have the backing of your Father in heaven.

Consider the words of Jesus found in John 15:7:

“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!”

That’s a promise from Jesus and it sounds like a plan!
