Psalm 107:23-32
As I was reading this, this morning, it dawned on me that we often think of Jesus calming the seas as an isolated event; but here we have the psalmist writing about the very same things and how they cried out to the Lord and the Lord calmed the seas to a whisper.
God gave us dominion over the earth. That dominion is delegated authority that has the backing of heaven. It is not that we are able to do these things by our own might or power but rather we are connected to the One who is All-powerful and He has commissioned us with the backing of heaven.
When Jesus said to pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” in what we know as the Lord’s Prayer, that presupposes that we have an understanding of what the will of the Lord is.
For example: the Israelites were told to take possession of the promised land. They had God’s word, God’s backing, and yet 10 of the 12 spies managed to discourage the majority of Israelites because of the giants in the land. That cost them 40 years wandering in the desert!
How many times do we allow circumstances to discourage us from doing what God has called us to do? We are tasked with speaking to those obstacles and circumstances that do not line up with the will of God for our lives and in our world.
Consider this Scripture in Ezekiel 22:30 where God says:
““I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.”

Will we intercede? Will we stand in the gap? Will we call those things that be not as though they were? Will we call heaven down to earth? As the psalmist says in Psalm 84:5-7:
“What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.”

Because of God’s power within us, we are called to change the world around us for the better. It is time we unlock His power within us with an understanding of what the will of the Lord is and exercise that dominion in accordance with His word!
