Psalm 103:19-22

It is hard for us at times to imagine that we have a host of spiritual beings in the form of angels and demons that actively work for us (as the angels do) and actively work against us (as the demons do). People forget that Jesus not only healed people but He also cast out demons and instructed his followers to do the same. Now, I am not one of those who believe there is a demon under every rock, but I would be remiss to pretend they don’t exist. That cartoon that shows an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other is more real than we know.

We are told not to give the devil a foothold in our life. Ephesians 4:27 specifically says that anger gives the enemy a foothold in your life. In the words of Yoda from the Star Wars saga, “Anger leads to the dark side.”

We must be careful not to give the enemy access into our lives by the things we entertain. As it has been said, ‘the eyes are a window to the soul’. Just as we are what we eat, we also become what we behold and think about. Consider Matthew 6:22-23:

““Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!”

How do you think it is that people can get to a place where they think right is wrong and wrong is right? It is called deception and the devil and his minions are the ones who do the deceiving.

Consider the words of Isaiah in Isaiah 5:20-23:

“What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold. They take bribes to let the wicked go free, and they punish the innocent. Therefore, just as fire licks up stubble and dry grass shrivels in the flame, so their roots will rot and their flowers wither. For they have rejected the law of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies; they have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.”

I remember being told that the greatest threat in these last days is deception. When I typed in this scripture to find its reference, the AI overview had this to say about Isaiah 5:20-23 - “This highlights the moral corruption that can accompany such a reversal of values, including self-deception, indulgence in harmful behaviors, and injustice.“

Does that not sound like today? In the name of ‘tolerance’, we have entertained those who vehemently fight for a ‘woman’s’ right to kill her baby even though they can’t define what a ‘woman’ is; biological males have been allowed to compete against biological females in sports, as if that’s okay; and suddenly, as a nation, we are celebrating drag queens and sexualizing our most vulnerable to variant behaviors in school as early as kindergarten. We opened the door to the enemy as a nation and the devil has brought his friends with him to wreak havoc. Do you really think God has turned a blind eye to this? No! He hasn’t! The enemy has been actively working through people to undermine the very fabric of our society bringing in all kinds of depravity that eventually leads to the destruction of societies, if history had taught us anything. The Roman Empire became a cesspool of perversion prior to its downfall. Consider what happened to Sodom and  Gomorrah. Genesis 18:20 records:

“So the Lord told Abraham, “I have heard a great outcry from Sodom and Gomorrah, because their sin is so flagrant. I am going down to see if their actions are as wicked as I have heard. If not, I want to know.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Abraham then pleads with the Lord and it is agreed that if the Lord is able to find 10 righteous in Sodom and Gomorrah, He will spare the cities. Two angels are sent down to investigate which you can read about in Genesis 19, but I will highlight that it was after the men of the city tried to have their way sexually with the angels that seemed to be the final straw, and the angels tell Lot to get his family and get out because, as recorded in Genesis 19:13:

“For we are about to destroy this city completely. The outcry against this place is so great it has reached the Lord, and he has sent us to destroy it.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭19‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I wonder what depravity exists in our country that causes us to teeter on the brink of destruction? We must get back to the ways of the Lord because if God didn’t spare them, what makes us think he will spare us?

Lastly, consider Peter’s warning found in 2 Peter 2:5-10:

“For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment. And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood. Later, God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and turned them into heaps of ashes. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people. But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him. Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day. So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment. He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We must stop tolerating things the Lord despises.
