Psalm 95:6-11

Is it important to honor the King? Absolutely! Give honor to whom honor is due. There is none like Him and there is no one more deserving of our praise. Yet, as we can see here, it is best not to make Him angry. Israel’s history is written down for our instruction. We must learn from it lest we fall into the same things they did. As the Apostle Paul states in 1 Corinthians 10:6-12:
“These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they (Israelites) did, or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, “The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.” And we must not engage in sexual immorality as some of them did, causing 23,000 of them to die in one day. Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites. And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death. These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age. If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.”

And we especially don’t want God taking an oath against as the Psalmist records in verse 11:
“So in My anger I took an oath: They will never enter My place of rest.”
And they didn’t! A whole generation was not allowed to enter the promised land because of their disobedience.
We should not test the patience of God. His mercy is intended to lead us to repentance, but should we continually resist Him, calamity awaits as reflected in Romans 2:4-11:
“Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.”

These are New Testament words to take to heart! God will not be mocked. For what a man sows, he will reap in this life (Galatians 6:7).
Let’s all make it our aim to sow good things with the good things God has provided that we may reap good things and bear fruit all for the glory of God! Amen!
