Stories from a few of those whom Solid Rock
has helped in their journey.
My family starting attending Solid Rock Christian Church in February 2005 after relocating back to South Florida. The first time we came and met Pastor Joe and Kathy we knew that this was the church God had chosen for us to become a part of. After many years of struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs, and pornography, I found that I was in a place where people genuinely cared about me. Through the friendship and counsel of Pastor Joe and Kathy, I have been able allow Jesus Christ to dwell in me, thereby placing sin under my feet and permitting God to take my burdens and carry the 'world' for me. The friendships we have made over the years here exemplify what true Christian fellowship is - and the Scripture of laying down one's life for their brother is lived out at Solid Rock. I will always be grateful that the Lord set us on the path that led us to SRCC and know that even though we may plan for things in our lives, if we truly want God's best for us and allow Him to direct us, He will always give us so much more than we ever could have hoped for. We are always excited to tell others about Solid Rock and are honored to be members of SRCC and the family of Christ.
When I met Pastor Joe and Kathy 10 years ago, I was an alcoholic and alone. Due to my heavy drinking; my family wanted nothing to do with me. They took me into their home and guided me to the Lord. Pastor Joe kept telling me if I continue to look to God for guidance I would regain all that I had lost. Well I followed his teachings and guidance and I am happy to say that 2 months ago, Pastor Joe at our church married my daughter with all of my family present. I not only have been sober for six years, I have got my life back together and have a strong relationship with my children and grandchildren. The Lord can work miracles, and Pastor Joe and Kathy loved me enough to show me the way.
My wife Nicole and I came to the Lord over three year’s ago. I remember vividly the first day at Solid Rock Church. We saw the Church family singing and praising Jesus in song and prayer. To be honest, we thought the people were kind of “out there” at first. Isn’t Church supposed to be quiet and tranquil and just let the Pastor read from that old bible? Well, that’s how we were brought up. We just couldn’t believe the genuine love and warm feeling we had even when we first entered Solid Rock.
Have you ever heard that song verse “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name”? Solid Rock is that place where “everybody” knows your name. Our calling is to love each other. It is so wonderful every Wednesday and Sunday to be with our extended family. We are family. We are the body of Christ and this is what it is all about! When you come to realize this, your life, like our lives, will change wonderfully! When the Holy Spirit is leading your days, you feel the awesome fruit of the Spirit including peace, joy, hope and love. Could you imagine if the world had more of these lifelines? How much better of a place would we all be in!
Nicole and I have learned that we have the opportunity to make a difference in so many people’s lives. Now that God is in CONTROL of our steps, we have the task to plant good seed around us. We can’t reap a harvest without sowing good and Godly seed. What Solid Rock and Pastor Joe have taught us is that through God’s promise and love for us, (and you) we matter. We are not the tail and in fact we are the head. Pastor Joe instills the importance of not only reading the Word of God, but LIVING the Word of God. My family’s testimony is only as good as how our light shines through. Personally, I look how my relationship with my own father has been reborn. My wife and I know it is through my walk with Christ that has brought my dad and I back together. We thank God for our shepherd and our Church. We pray all of us that love the Lord, and those who don’t know Him yet, understand that we are so fortunate and equally Blessed people! My family and I know that God brought Pastor Joe in our lives to guide us to what really matters Jesus!
Prior to coming to Solid Rock, my life was filled with bad choices and open rebellion against God. Jeremiah 31:19 states ”I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.”NLT which describes the state of my life at that time. I was consumed with guilt and shame over my actions and felt that God would not want me back.
Through divine intervention, I began taking golf lessons from Kathy and it didn’t take long to realize that God was working behind the scenes. She interjected God in our conversations and lessons in a very natural way without pushing. After several invitations I finally visited the church and met Pastor Joe. I knew immediately that this was where I was supposed to be and I also knew that a lot of changes were about to take place in my life. Pastor Joe and Kathy were extremely patient with me as I began to turn from the things of the world and turn back to God. Through their love and support I discovered the love of God that covers my past and has opened the door to a future I could never have dreamed of. Pastor once told me that the second half of my life would be far better than the first half and that has proven so true.
While working with the youth group at the church I met my husband. God brought us together while we were both focusing on serving Him and growing. He confirmed His plan for us in a variety of ways and 4 years ago we were married, and we now have three wonderful boys.
Sometimes I can’t fathom the changes that have taken place in my life in the past 6 years. Had it not been for Pastor Joe and Kathy and the family of Solid Rock I would most likely still be struggling in a life of sin feeling rejected by God. But now because of their unconditional love and support I can look to a future with God beyond my wildest imagination. I truly am an example of the redeeming power of God’s love and the fruit of the dedicated work of God’s faithful servants. No one is out of the reach of God’s Love.
